Celebrating motherhood is a historical tradition dating back almost as far as mothers themselves. Each country, each nation has its own day for holiday of commemoration and celebration for Mom. In the USA it is Mother's Day that will be selebrated in 2009 on Sunday May 10. In the UK it is Mothering Sunday, that is selebrated on the 22nd of March, 2009. In the RF it is International Women's Day on March 8.
In each country it is a nice and happy holiday, that begins from beforehand shoppings of gifts and flowers, continues with helping in cleaning a flat, cooking a holiday food, washing dishes. It's time for family gatherings, parties, theatres and concerts. It's merry time of picture cards, phone calls and letters. I's the day of flowers: roses, tulips, chrysanthemums and others. It's the day when each woman tries to look especially pretty.
In the USA the holiday when Americans honour their mothers isn't a national holiday. Americans send their mothers a card or a gift, present flowers, prepare dinner for them. It is a time of breakfast in bed and family gatherings. It's the custom to wear a red or pinkflower if one's mother is living. It's custom to wear a white flower if one's mother is dead.
